Why choose the Association?

The Association of Anaesthetists is a membership organisation for anaesthetists, with over 10,000 members. Our main aims are to advance and improve patient care and safety and to promote and support education and research in the field of anaesthesia. We also represent, protect, support and advance the interests of our members.

We offer an excellent benefits package, beautiful surroundings in which to work, and a focus on wellbeing which elevates us an employer. Inclusivity is incredibly important to us; we welcome applications from every walk of life.

As an organisation, we are aware of our obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and we are committed to processing your data securely and transparently. This privacy notice sets out, in line with GDPR, the types of data that we hold on you as a job applicant to the organisation.

We invest in people

The Association of Anaesthetists has been awarded accreditation by Investors in People. This accreditation means that principles and practices around supporting our staff are in place and everyone understands how to use them to make work better.

The Association is also a proud member of Wellbeing of Women, the only UK charity dedicated to funding research, education and advocacy across all of women's reproductive and gynaecological health, including menstruation, fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, gynaecological cancers, menopause and incontinence. It raises money to invest in medical research and the development of specialist doctors and nurses working in these fields. The charity also disseminates information and hosts regular webinars on women's health.

As an Investor in People employer and a champion of fair treatment and wellbeing at work, the Association also supports the principles of Fair Work First, the Scottish Government’s flagship policy for driving high quality and fair work through adopting fair working practices, specifically:

  • Paying at least the real Living Wage
  • Providing a staff forum for communication between staff team and management
  • Investing in the development of our staff
  • Not inappropriately using zero hours contracts
  • Creating a diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Offering flexible and family friendly working arrangements to our staff from day one of employment
  • Opposing the use of fire and rehire practice
