Becoming a member of the Association of Anaesthetists is a brilliant way to begin your journey into anaesthesia and to make vital connections along the way.

Your membership is heavily discounted and gives you access to a wealth of CV enhancing opportunities. We also offer a range of networking events where you can meet invaluable contacts and get abstracts published.

We also provide useful handbooks and guidelines such as Who is the anaesthetist?

Our membership will remain beneficial throughout the various stages of your career.

Discounted registration for the Trainee conference

The Association's Trainee conference is a must for all medical students, anaesthetic trainees, first year consultants and medical students.  Medical students are entitled to heavily discounted ticket prices.

The Trainee conference offers the chance to showcase your knowledge by entering abstracts. As well as helping to raise your profile professionally, all accepted abstracts will be published in a special online edition of the journal Anaesthesia. There’s also a special prize awarded for an essay on the History of Anaesthesia.

Around 300 anaesthetists attend the Trainee conference each year, offering a fantastic opportunity to network with colleagues, present your work as an oral presentation or poster and attend exciting and relevant workshops.

Undergraduate elective funding available

The medical student elective can bring enormous benefits for a successful career in anaesthesia, pain, medicine and intensive care medicine.

In particular, students may become more flexible, resourceful and culturally aware through projects based in developing countries (a particular focus of the work of the Association). Therefore elective placements supporting work in developing countries are given priority.

Grants will only be awarded to applicants who intend to spend time away from their base academic institution, and whose travel, accommodation and subsistence costs are increased as a result.
