Abstract submission for Annual Congress 2025
The closing date for submissions for oral (free paper) or ePoster presentation at the Annual Congress is 23:59 on Wednesday 7 May 2025.
We welcome you to submit your abstract for the Annual Congress 2025. Showcase your work, share your expertise, and gain recognition at one of the leading conferences in anaesthesia.

New abstract category
This year, we have introduced a new abstract category: Education and training, so why not submit your abstract today. We welcome abstracts from all grades of anaesthetists and medical students and have a specific category for SAS doctors to submit their audits.
We welcome abstracts in any of the following categories:
- Audit and quality improvement
- SAS audit prize (lead author of the work must be an SAS grade anaesthetist)
- Case reports
- Education and training
- Original research
- Survey
Roddie McNicol Patient Safety Prize
Abstracts are also welcomed to the Roddie McNicol Patient Safety prize to showcase examples of improved safety in anaesthesia. The prize is open to members of the Association. The project could involve an individual, department, medical students or allied health care professionals, provided the project lead is a member of the Association. Applicants may like to consider projects based on themes identified in SALG patient safety updates.
You will need to demonstrate:
- Clear aims and objectives
- An innovative idea(s)
- How the project was introduced and implemented
- How performance was measured and benchmarked
- How information about the project was disseminated
- The sustainability of the project
- Transferability of the project to other departments
Successful authors will be invited to present a poster at Annual Congress.
After the deadline, a preliminary review of the abstracts received will determine which ones are accepted for presentation at the Annual Congress. PLease note that abstracts can only be subnmitted in one category. Some authors will be invited to present their work orally and the remaining successful authors will be invited to display or present an ePoster.
Authors of the best poster(s) will be awarded ‘Editors’ Prizes’.

Green Star Award
All abstracts submitted to the conference will be considered for the Green Star Award. Abstracts deemed to have demonstrated a consideration of sustainability within their projects will be shortlisted for the award, with the best being invited to present their work at the conference.
Important information
If your abstract is accepted an author or co-author must register and attend the conference in person as a condition of acceptance.

Submitters will be informed of the outcome of their submission after 12 June 2025.
All accepted abstracts in the above categories will be published in Anaesthesia in the form of a fully referenceable online supplement (NB Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to refuse publication, e.g. where there are major concerns over ethics and/or content).
Assessors of submitted abstracts are blinded to the authors and required to highlight any competing interests during assessment. Association Board/Education Committee members and Faculty are excluded from assessing/judging any abstracts, and from chairing/judging sessions that include any abstracts, of which they are a co-author.
