Medical students and trainee anaesthetists were invited to submit an abstract for oral or poster presentation at the Trainee Conference 2024.

This is a great opportunity to share your work with your peers, get your work published, develop your portfolio and be eligible to win cash prizes. If accepted to the conference, your abstract will be selected for oral presentation, poster presentation or poster display. All abstracts accepted to the conference will be published in a special online supplement of Anaesthesia.

Free papers: Oral presentation prize - sponsored by the MDU

The authors of the highest-scoring abstracts in the preliminary review will be invited to present their work in the oral presentation session and will be eligible for the Oral Presentation Prize. A cash prize will be awarded to the winners.

Free papers: Oral case presentation prize - sponsored by the MDU
Trainees are asked to submit an abstract of an interesting case that they have been involved in, and which has learning points that may aid other anaesthetists in their management of similar cases. The three best submissions as judged in the preliminary review will be invited to present their work as an oral presentation at the conference and the audience asked to vote for their favourite. A cash prize will be awarded to the winners.

Poster competition
The remaining successful authors will be invited to display a poster. Entries will be allocated into one of the following categories depending on the grade of the presenting author: 

  • Medical students 
  • Foundation Year Trainees 
  • Stage 1
  • Stage 2 
  • Stage 3

Those accepted to the poster competition will have the opportunity to display their poster during the conference. Abstract submitters will receive a letter after the conference confirming the acceptance and publication of their abstract to help develop their portfolio. Top scoring abstracts in each category will invited to present their poster during the conference, and will be eligible to win cash prizes. The judges also reserve the right to award discretionary certificates.

If your abstract is accepted to the conference, it is a condition of acceptance that a trainee or medical student author or co-author registers and attends the conference.
