The Association of Anaesthetists is seeking a new Chief Executive Officer. This is a unique opportunity to play a leading role in realising the organisation’s vision of being an effective voice for the specialty, a leading contributor to health policy affecting anaesthesia and a leader in raising public awareness and understanding of the anaesthetist’s role.

Reporting to the President, the CEO is the most senior member of staff, responsible for the operational leadership of the Association, including the delivery of the Association’s vision, values and strategic plan. Managing the senior management team, the CEO will build effective working relationships with Directors and Trustees, leading on planning and development, budgeting, financial and statutory duties, governance and elections.

The CEO will bring leadership and stakeholder management experience within a similarly complex organisation, ideally in the charity sector, healthcare sector, a membership body, educational body or other not-for-profit organisation. They will bring commercial nous and change management credentials. They will act as a “bridge” between staff and the Boards and will bring excellent relationship-building and communications skills, as well as empathy. They will be committed to embedding equality and diversity into Association activities and creating a supportive and inclusive working culture.
