Association statement on assisted dying
22 November 2024
Members will be aware of the current debate around legislation regarding assisted dying. The Association is adopting a neutral position on assisted dying. This recognises the range of views held by members, which is supported by the evidence in the RCoA’s survey, and by the public. We acknowledge that individual opinions about assisted dying are an intensely personal matter.
The Association does not advocate for or against assisted dying, but we will continue to engage with policymakers on the matter, for instance, commenting on proposed legislation from a technical point of view, pointing out matters of language and medical terminology that require clarification. We will also provide relevant information to members about the legislation as and when necessary.
