Describe your role

Chair of SAFE Operating Room Steering Committee and Immediate Past Honorary Membership Secretary Association of Anaesthetists.

How did you get there?

I shared an office with Judith Hall (now Professor Judith Hall) when I worked as a locum consultant. I got involved in a training project in Liberia with the charity Mothers of Africa providing and supporting training for nurse anaesthetists. I saw how a relatively small amount of teaching could transform outcomes for surgical patients and job satisfaction for nurse anaesthetists. I met Ian Wilson and later Isabeau Walker through this work and was co-opted to the AAGBI IRC. I worked on the E SAFE DVD with Oliver Ross and worked with Kate Grady on SAFE. All truly inspiring people.

What is your greatest achievement?

Bringing up two healthy independent happy children.

What inspires you?

Passion for a subject or a cause.

What advice would you give to those who wish to follow your path?

Follow the things that you believe in, enjoy and are passionate about. Seek out those who have the same passion but also experience, wisdom, and humility.
