Meet the Resident Doctors Committee - Louise Swan

Meet Louise Swan. Louise is a consultant in critical care and anaesthesia. She works at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. Louise’s clinical interests are critical care, mentoring, education and wellbeing.

What does the Association Resident Doctors Committee mean to you?

It's a group of enthusiastic trainees and newly appointed consultants, working together to maintain high standards of anaesthetic care and support the anaesthetic workforce.

What has most surprised you since joining the Resident Doctors Committee?

The many facets to the Association as a whole and the wide array of work we do.

What would you like to achieve in your time on Resident Doctors Committee?

This year, I hope to support the committee members deliver on the amazing ideas they have and develop the mentoring opportunities available for all members.

Why did you decide to become an anaesthetist / doctor?

It’s a bit of a cliché really, but when deciding what I wanted to do at the age of 16, my interests were people and science. Anaesthetists always seemed to enjoy their job, so I did a taster as an F2 and here I am!

What do you like most about your job?

Working with such a variety of people and teams, as well as prioritising patient safety.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Spending time at the beach with my family, yoga, jogging slowly, and playing the saxophone.
