About this webinar recording

We are all likely to find ourselves at some stage in our career helping to support a trainee or colleague who is having to deal with the aftermath following notification that a complaint against them has been received by the General Medical Council (GMC), or indeed we may find ourselves facing the regulator. This webinar aims to inform participants on the likely origin and risk of complaints against anaesthetists, the pathway that a complaint may follow from any initial GMC investigation, including referral to the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS), and possible sanctions on a doctor’s registration. Tools and information to guide anyone involved in the process will be discussed by senior decision makers and lawyers from both the GMC and MPTS.

Organiser: Dr Paul Diprose, Cardiac anaesthetist and intensivist and MPTS tribunal member

Chair: Dr Paul Diprose

Programme:

Introduction - Dr Paul Diprose, Cardiac anaesthetist and intensivist and MPTS tribunal member

How the GMC handle complaints - Andrew Hoyle, Barrister and doctor, Assistant Director, Decisions, GMC

Preparation and navigation of a tribunal hearing - Andrew Lewis, Barrister, MPTS Legally Qualified Chair and Margaret Obi, Deputy High Court Judge, MPTS Legally Qualified Chair
