This webinar was put on to coincide with the COP26 meeting hosted in Glasgow in the UK. Established by the United Nations (UN) at the Earth Summit in 1992, COP – or Conference of the Parties – brings together almost every country in the world to tackle issues related to climate change. This year will be the 26th annual summit.
The webinar will explore two important areas of controversy in anaesthetic practice that have a big impact on our environment and sustainability. The first is total intravenous anaesthesia versus inhalation anaesthesia. Two speakers will debate which is the best technique for patients AND for the environment and how we can improve our use of these techniques sustainably, including volatile capture technology. The second is disposable versus re-usable equipment, and two speakers will debate whether we should dispose of all our equipment to protect patients or what we can re-use and how. There will be plenty of opportunity to debate with the speakers and ask questions to really explore these two critical issues for our specialty. .
