Sir James Mackey, known as Jim Mackey, is a British National Health Service administrator and Chief Executive of NHS England since April 2025. A qualified accountant, he previously led Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (2003–2023), served as CEO of NHS Improvement (2015–2017), and was National Director of Elective Recovery at NHS England (2021–2025). He also headed Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (2024–2025) and was knighted in 2019 for services to healthcare. Widely regarded as a trusted turnaround leader, he focuses on restoring financial control, accelerating elective recovery, and delivering the 10-Year Health Plan.
