Diabetes is one of the most common co-existing medical conditions that surgical patients have. Management over the past 30 years has evolved from obligatory intravenous insulin infusion and patients being denied day surgery, to the current status of most patients having their medicines modified prior to admission and having access to day surgery. With the advent of new diabetes treatments that includes both wearable technology eg insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring and new classes of medicines eg GLP 1 receptor agonists, it has been necessary to update the guidance for the perioperative management of diabetes.
This webinar will showcase the new guidance produced by the Association of Anaesthetists and the Joint British Diabetes Society. We will have international experts demonstrating the impact and benefit of perioperative interventions and how to safely perioperatively use wearable technology. Moreover, the guidance has been subjected to Delphi methodology to streamline the number of recommendations and these rationalised and streamlined recommendations will be shared.
