The Association of Anaesthetists is delighted to announce that Anaesthesia Reports is now indexed on the PubMed database. Anaesthesia Reports represents the next generation of peer-reviewed journals that accepts case reports, videos, images and educational articles from authors anywhere in the world. Regardless of author background or subject area, Anaesthesia Reports offers a cutting-edge platform for authors, readers and patients. PubMed listing is a major step for Anaesthesia Reports, as this is a reflection of the quality, legitimacy and scientific value of the Journal. Seeing Anaesthesia Reports indexed on PubMed will increase the reach and dissemination of published reports, will make the novelty and educational value of each report more generalisable, and could lead to improvements in patient care worldwide. Moreover, authors will benefit from greater visibility of their work, and institutions will now formally recognise work published free-of-charge in Anaesthesia Reports.

This is the culmination of years of development on behalf of the Association of Anaesthetists, beginning in 2013 with its online-only case report website, Anaesthesia Cases. This resource was highly popular, publishing more than 50 reports per year. In 2019, the Association funded a move to Anaesthesia Reports, a fully independent, online-only, peer-reviewed journal published by Wiley. It has been highly successful, with nearly 150 submissions in the first 10 months of launching, publishing 30 unique reports with more than 16,000 downloads from all corners of the globe. We look forward to the ongoing development and success of Anaesthesia Reports.

Dr Kariem El-Boghdadly, Editor of Anaesthesia Reports and Consultant Anaesthetist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London, said: “This is a big step for Anaesthesia Reports, but it also represents an important advancement of academic anaesthesia in the UK. We now have a resource that provides a global platform for clinicians to share their clinical experiences, educating and helping readers in the management of their own patients.”

Dr Kathleen Ferguson, President of the Association of Anaesthetists, said: “This is great news for the specialty and for authors and readers alike. It aligns Anaesthesia Reports with all the major specialty journals and brings important clinical learning to a wider audience. ‘Very well done and thank you’ to the editorial team.”
