Oliver won the prize for his essay 'Environmental Sustainability: Opportunity or Cost for Anaesthesia?' The Wylie Medal is named in memory of the late Dr W Derek Wylie, President of the Association 1980 – 82.

Dr Kathleen Ferguson, current President of the Association, noted that Oliver’s essay had helped Board members reflect on the environmental impact of their practice, which is a great achievement at his stage of training.
