Join the Resident Doctors Committee in 2026

Join the Resident Doctors Committee and shape the future of anaesthesia

Do you want to make a real impact on anaesthetic training and help shape the future of our specialty? The Resident Doctors Committee (RDC), formerly the Trainee Committee, is looking for passionate, driven residents who are ready to advocate for their peers, influence change, and grow as leaders. This is your chance to improve training, working conditions, and professional development for anaesthetists across the UK and Ireland.

We’re calling on diverse voices from every stage of training and every background to step forward and stand for election. Your perspective matters, whether you’re passionate about improving work-life balance, strengthening mentorship, championing education, or tackling the challenges of the healthcare system. Together, we can shape the priorities and initiatives that define our specialty. By joining, you’ll not only transform your colleagues’ experiences but also take your own skills and career to the next level.

Why join the RDC?

Being part of the RDC is more than a leadership role, it’s an opportunity for personal and professional growth that will support you throughout your career:

  • Advocate for change: Represent your peers and help shape decisions that affect anaesthetic training
  • Expand your network: Connect with residents, mentors, and leaders across the specialty
  • Develop key skills: Build leadership, communication, and project management expertise
  • Make an educational impact: Contribute to webinars, conferences, and initiatives that elevate training standards

You’ll have opportunities to attend high-profile events and contribute to guidelines and consensus statements that shape practice worldwide.

Who can stand?

There are four seats up for election this year, with terms of two to four years. We welcome applications from Stage 1 residents and from individuals from all backgrounds, our goal is a committee that truly reflects the diversity of our membership.

Committee meetings are held on Fridays quarterly, either in London or online and successful applicants should expect to also be involved in other projects and meetings.

To stand, you must:

  • Be a resident member of the Association in good standing
  • Be based in the UK or Ireland
  • Discuss your plans with your Training Programme Director to ensure you can balance committee work with your training

How to apply

Nominate yourself online by 17:00 on Friday 27 March 2026. You’ll need:

  • Support from two current resident members
  • A 250-word personal statement outlining your motivation, background, and vision for anaesthetic training

Submit your nomination

If more candidates stand than seats available, an election will take place. Voting will be managed online by Civica Election Services. Resident members will be eligible to vote. Candidates, trustees, committee members, and staff must follow the election canvassing guidelines throughout.

After voting closes and results have been verified, successful candidates will be announced and will begin their term at the Resident Update meeting during the Resident Doctors Conference 2026 in Newcastle (17–18 June 2026).

This is more than a committee role, it’s your chance to grow, lead, and make a lasting impact on the future of anaesthesia. Competition will be strong, so make your nomination stand out!
