Frequently asked questions

What is a virtual conference?

Winter Scientific Meeting (WSM) will be taking place in a new online format. You can still expect the first-class educational programme, networking opportunities, exhibition and posters that you would usually get from WSM. The conference will take place on a virtual platform meaning you can join us from anywhere in the world with nothing more than a laptop or mobile device.

When will WSM 2021 be taking place?

WSM 2021 will be taking place on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 January 2021. The online conference hub will open before the conference meaning you can access the exhibition, network with colleagues and view educational content before the live broadcast starts.

What happens if I can’t make it on the day?

Just because you can’t join us live doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the content. All of our keynotes and workshops will be recorded meaning you can watch them back after the conference in your own time.

Will there be any face-to-face events?

We are following the UK government guidance on mass gatherings. If it is deemed safe and feasible, the Association will work hard to offer a small face-to-face element in addition to the new virtual experience of WSM 2021

What is included in my registration fee for the full virtual congress?

By registering for the conference you will gain access to all of our scientific content, keynotes, exhibition, posters and networking opportunities. Priority access to the recordings of the content will be available for you to view after the conference for all conference attendees.

Do I need to download any software to attend the conference?

You do not need to download any software in order to join us for WSM 2021. The conference platform can be accessed through any web browser on your computer or mobile device.

Can I attend just one day?

By registering for WSM 2021 you will gain access content from both days of the event. All the sessions will be recording meaning that you can watch them in your own time, even if you are unable to join us on the day itself. However we would encourage you to attend live to maximise on the full benefit of the interactive elements.

Will there be an Exhibition?

There will be virtual booths, symposia, and networking opportunities with exhibitors just like you would expect from a physical conference. Unlike a traditional conference, this year our exhibition will open before the main event starts and after the close of the conference. There will be dedicated times in the programme on the live days to talk to industry.

How do I access the virtual conference?

You will receive a confirmation email once you make your booking. When the WSM 2021 platform launches in late November you will receive a link to access the conference.

CPD at WSM 2021

In keeping with the GMC condition that CPD activity doesn’t need a set number of 'points' or 'credits', the Association doesn't issue these for its educational activities.
However, for those members who wish to record their CPD in terms of points or credits it's normal practice to give one credit or point for each hour of education provided.
CEPD certificates will be available to download from the 'My account' section of the website immediately after the meeting.
