Anaesthesia Reports is looking to appoint a new Editor

Become an Editor for Anaesthesia Reports

Anaesthesia Reports, an official journal of the Association of Anaesthetists, is actively seeking applications for a new Editor. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the body of academic research in anaesthesia and provides a chance for personal career development within scholarly publishing.

The journal has considerably expanded its scope to encompass traditional case reports, clinical and educational articles, multimedia reports, quality improvement initiatives, and comprehensive research reports. Its indexing in PubMed Central since February 2020 further demonstrates its prominence in the dissemination of high-quality scientific literature.

What the role offers

  • Your work as Editor will directly influence which research, clinical articles, and innovative reports are published, thereby shaping the discourse and advancing knowledge in anaesthesia.
  • This role is a platform for developing reviewing and editing expertise. You'll gain an insider's perspective on the peer-review process, enhance your ability to critically evaluate diverse research methodologies, and hone your communication skills.
  • The role is primarily email and web-based, requiring an estimated 2-4 hours per week, offering flexibility to integrate with your existing professional commitments. We are open to less than full-time contracts, making this an accessible opportunity for busy clinicians.
  • You will join an excellent and cohesive editorial team, benefiting from shared expertise and a collaborative spirit.

In addition, Editors receive an honorarium and complimentary registration at the Association’s Annual Winter Scientific Meeting. The initial term of office is three years, with the potential for up to two extensions.

Who we are looking for

We welcome applications from individuals with a proven history of publication, strong written English skills, and excellent time management. While prior editorial experience is not essential, experience as a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals is highly desirable. We are particularly keen to hear from those with an interest in airway management, pain medicine, or paediatric anaesthesia.

How to apply

To apply, please submit a short essay (up to 500 words) on ‘The value of Quality Improvement articles in peer-review journals’ along with a short CV (no more than two A4 pages) to Erin Taylor, Editorial Co-ordinator: [email protected].

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a brief set of editorial tasks as part of the selection process. The closing date for applications is 10 August 2025.

For an informal discussion, please contact the Executive Editor, Dr Yavor Metodiev, at [email protected]
