About this online seminar
Join us for an exciting, interactive, practical ‘online’ seminar, delivered by enthusiastic and experienced tutors. The session is suitable for all levels of experience, from novice through to expert. If you answer yes to any of the questions below, this seminar is for you.
• Do you rely on clinical monitoring or standard qualitative nerve stimulators for assessing neuromuscular block?
• Do you want to introduce quantitative monitoring for your personal practice?
• Do you want to introduce quantitative monitoring delivery for your department?
• Are you wondering which type of monitor / device to use?
• Do you want to find out how to optimise use of any existing devices you may have?
• Are you looking for interaction and ‘tips & tricks’ for your monitoring practice?
Background: The Association of Anaesthetists Standards of Monitoring (2021) recommend the use of quantitative neuromuscular monitoring whenever patients are ‘paralysed’, and throughout all phases of anaesthesiaref. Residual paralysis is widespread, results in patient harm, and cannot be recognised unless such devices are used. The seminar addresses neuromuscular blockade (NMB) monitoring as part of a strategy that will enhance clinical practice, whenever NMB is required for anaesthesia and surgery. The goal is the elimination of residual paralysis.
The seminar consists of a selection of short lectures covering the background and optimal drug use, within an overarching strategy for NMB. This is followed by practical demonstrations of a wide variety of equipment, interactive discussions, and case presentations. The seminar aligns with the pEEG session, in promoting the bespoke monitoring that reveals the inter-patient variability of the components of modern ‘balanced’ anaesthesia; hypnosis, paralysis and analgesia.
